ReAL frameworks and rationale
ReAL objectives
ReAL has been designed to be used for three main purposes:
- As a self paced professional development resource for tutors who wish to learn more about how to integrate literacy into their programmes
- As a resource for programme managers who want to learn more about integrating literacy, numeracy and language support into their organisation
- As a professional development resource for those who train and support tutors to integrate literacy into their programmes
The design and learning objectives of ReAL draw on a number of different theoretical approaches and frameworks. Some of these are specific to literacy development (e.g. Buehl, D. 2001) and others come from the general field of adult education (e.g. Knowles, M.S. 1990). These approaches and frameworks inform both the content and the structure of the resource.
